District heating and solar panels

Koopman Car Terminal switches off the gas

At Koopman Car Terminal in Amsterdam, 100% sustainable district heating and almost 1250 solar panels were put into operation in the autumn of 2018. This project came about in cooperation with Port of Amsterdam, Orgaworld and Zonel. The transition from natural gas and electricity to organic residual heat and solar panels results in an annual CO2 reduction of 590 tons.

Sustainable heat

The district heating comes from Orgaworld and is therefore sustainable. Westpoort Warmte, a joint venture between Nuon and AEB Amsterdam, supplies the district heating to the Koopman terminal via a newly constructed pipeline network. "The transition to sustainable energy is high on our agenda and that of our customers," says General Manager Bart Smits of Koopman Car Terminal. "We are happy to participate in this kind of sustainable initiatives and are pleased with the cooperation with Port of Amsterdam, the owner of our terminal."
