"Koopman actively looks for ways of working more efficiently

Koopman Logistics has been the transporter for Nijburg since 19 June 2017. The goods flow is diverse; from large one-off consignments containing considerable volumes for large projects, to small consignments that need to be delivered quickly on time. February 2018 saw the first meeting between ICT manager Klaas Schaart and Koopman to discuss VSM (Value Stream Mapping). A VSM project group was formed in order to map out which logistic processes were ripe for improvement. Fast forward more than a year, and great improvements have been implemented.
VSM is a technique used to analyse and optimise the goods flow. The most important change is that both parties have insight into the goods flows right from the start. A distinction has been made into dedicated transport, full truck loads or combined truck loads, and finally-meshed distribution in a well-organised network. Other points for improvement are for example standardisation of trailers, time slots for just-in-time deliveries and regular driver routes. 'This VSM project has given us great insight into how processes can become smarter'. Many adjustments have already been made, but there is so much still to be done.
